Pemberdayaan Orang Tua melalui Parenting Positif Berbasis Sekolah Orang Tua Hebat untuk Mewujudkan Perlindungan Anak dan Karakter Positif Anak Usia Dini

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve parents’ capacity in implementing positive parenting to strengthen child protection and character development through the Sekolah Orang Tua Hebat (SOTH) Program in Pagesangan District, Surabaya City. The activity was conducted using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach that positioned parents as active subjects in identifying problems, developing solutions, participating in training, implementing parenting practices, and evaluating changes in parenting behavior. The program was carried out through several stages, including preparation, needs identification, training, mentoring, and evaluation. The materials provided included effective communication, positive discipline, emotional management, children’s rights fulfillment, child protection, and character development through parental role modeling. Evaluation data were collected through participatory observation, interviews, Focus Group Discussions, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed an improvement in parents’ understanding of non-violent parenting, empathetic communication, and the implementation of educational consequences. Participants also demonstrated changes in managing emotions, listening to children, and building more open family interactions. Furthermore, the program encouraged the establishment of communication networks, peer support among parents, and the emergence of local leaders who contributed to program sustainability. Therefore, the SOTH Program is effective as a family empowerment model to strengthen child protection and positive character development in early childhood.
