Abstract

This study examines the degradation of students’ character in the digital era and explores the revitalization of pesantren educational philosophy as a strategic solution. Conducted at Pesantren Zainul Hasan Genggong, this research employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach using in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The findings reveal that character degradation primarily occurs in aspects of communication ethics and rule compliance, influenced by increased exposure to digital technology and shifting social interaction patterns. However, core philosophical values of pesantren education, such as adab and spirituality, remain relatively strong, indicating their continued relevance as a moral foundation. The study highlights a gap between value internalization and daily practices, particularly in discipline. Therefore, revitalization is necessary not merely to preserve tradition but to reinterpret and integrate philosophical values with digital literacy. The proposed model emphasizes value-based technology use, moral awareness, and adaptive educational strategies. This research contributes theoretically to Islamic education by reinforcing the importance of philosophical approaches in character building, and practically by offering recommendations for pesantren to develop integrative curricula and value-oriented digital policies.
