Abstract

The success of public health transformation depends heavily on children, who act as messengers for the principles of hygiene. The lack of knowledge of students in Islamic boarding schools regarding hygiene and self-care causes various health problems. Based on initial observations conducted at the Raudlatul Musthofa Islamic Boarding School, Rejotangan District, Tulungagung Regency, it was found that a number of students experienced various health problems, especially skin problems. The community service implementation method used a health education approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design with a total of 213 respondents. The activity began with a pretest, and after the educational activity was completed, students were given a posttest. From the community service activities that have been carried out, results were obtained that there was an increase in knowledge and self-care behavior in school children, where it was known that there was an increase in scores after being given health education of 81%. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a Z value = -11.101 and p-value = <.001 (<0.05), confirmed that the Healthy Generation Program implemented had increased knowledge and self-care behavior in school children. It is recommended that teachers at the Raudlatul Musthofa Islamic Boarding School provide guidance and counseling on hygiene and health through the School Health Unit (UKS). It is recommended that local health workers regularly monitor and provide follow-up health education to improve the health and knowledge of students at the Raudlatul Musthofa Islamic Boarding School.
