Abstract

Termination of employment in Indonesia represents a multidimensional issue within labor relations because it involves not only economic considerations but also legal protection for workers. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of layoffs in Indonesia from the perspective of labor law, particularly focusing on the gap between normative regulation and its implementation in practice. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method through an extensive literature review of recent academic publications. The findings indicate that layoffs are influenced by various interconnected factors, including economic instability, corporate restructuring, technological advancement, and efficiency-oriented policies. Although Indonesia has established a comprehensive legal framework governing employment termination, significant disparities remain between regulatory provisions and real-world practices, especially regarding procedural compliance and workers’ entitlement to compensation. The study contributes to highlighting the urgency of strengthening legal enforcement mechanisms and improving adaptive labor policies to ensure equitable industrial relations in Indonesia.
