Abstract

Self-Discrepancy Theory (Higgins, 1987) explains the inconsistency between individuals’ moral beliefs and their actual behavioral responses in social situations. Conformity pressure often encourages Generation Z to remain passive as bystanders despite recognizing moral violations, while no specific instrument has been developed to measure Self-Discrepancy in the context of sexual harassment. This study aimed to develop a Situational Judgment Test (SJT) instrument based on three dimensions (actual self, ideal self, and ought self) and three sub-dimensions (MSA, SPR, and SEB). Content validity was evaluated by four experts, resulting in an Item Content Validity Index (I-CVI) and Scale Content Validity Index (S-CVI) of 1.00 for 30 initial items. Data from 195 respondents were analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), producing acceptable model fit indices (CFI = 0.829, TLI = 0.806, RMSEA = 0.079, SRMR = 0.063). Twenty items were retained with standardized factor loadings ranging from 0.43 to 0.66 (p < .001), while one item was removed due to inadequate validity. The final instrument is valid and reliable for measuring bystander Self-Discrepancy in sexual harassment situations among university students and may be applied in broader populations in future studies.
