Abstract

The utilization of household yards in urban areas remains suboptimal, despite their potential to serve as spaces for food crop cultivation and support household food needs. This community service activity aimed to improve yard utilization, knowledge, skills, and self-reliance among 15 housewives in Taman Lestari Housing Complex, Kibing Village, Batu Aji District, Batam City. The activity employed a participatory approach through education, demonstrations, hands-on practice, mentoring, monitoring, and evaluation, implemented in stages from February to August 2026. The cultivated crops included chili, basil, and water spinach. The results showed that 100% of the partners’ yards were identified and mapped, 80% of participants were able to cultivate at least two types of crops, 80% were able to independently maintain the plants, and 86.67% were able to record cultivation costs and production results. It is recommended that the program be continued through replanting, crop diversification, strengthened pest management skills, and continuous mentoring to maintain yard productivity and support household food self-reliance.
